JANICE KEENE – Volunteer, Founder, & President | 301-687-0664, janicekeene@evergreenheritagecenter.org

A computer programmer turned savvy business consultant turned nonprofit leader, Janice grew up on the farm at Evergreen. The visionary behind Evergreen Heritage Center’s activities, she was named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record.

 

MATT DIEHL – Caretaker & Evergreen Property Manager                                                                                  

A talented tradesman, fabricator and mechanical engineer, Matt is responsible for the success of our forestry program as well as the maintenance of our buildings and caring for our beautiful grounds and surrounding trees.

 

DAWN HEIN – Executive Director, Curator | dawn@evergreenheritagecenter.org

Preservation Specialist Dawn Hein manages the EHC’s Experience Evergreen programs in tourism, hospitality, and outreach.  Ms. Hein has over twenty years of experience in architectural design, historic preservation, and museum studies.  More recently, Ms. Hein was Executive Director of the Garrett County Heritage Area.  She has a B.A. degree in Interior Design from Purdue University and an M.S. degree in Historic Preservation from Ball State University.

 

HEATHER HARTMAN – Director of Education | heather@evergreenheritagecenter.org

Heather’s love of oceans and water inspired her career in science education.  She is a Master Environmental Educator and currently works teaching and coordinating our education programs. Heather has a background in teaching as a science and special needs educator.  She holds an M.A. in Teaching from Frostburg State University and a B.S. in Marine Science from Coastal Carolina University.

 

MAGGIE PRATT – Director of Arts                                                                                                                       

A successful working artist, Maggie leads occasional arts programs for adults at Evergreen. She designed Evergreen’s programs for Arts in the Schools & Nature of Art, as well as art summer camps each year. She holds an M.Ed in Art Education/Studio from Frostburg State University.



JILLIAN KERNS – Manager of Nursery Operations                                                                       

Jillian oversees Evergreen’s native plant nursery & sales, as well as conservation programs across the property. With a background in biology, she has an expansive knowledge in native plants and agriculture.

 

 

MALLERY LATGIS – Senior Instructor                                                                                                                    

Mallery has ten years of experience teaching homeschool co-ops as well as experience as a classroom aide. She enjoys working with children, history, and the outdoors. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Frostburg State University and is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Teaching from Shepherd University.

 

BETHANY DONALDSON – Instructor                                                               

Bethany has several years of experience working in the public schools, as well as assisting with EHC field trips, after school programs, events, and summer camps. 

 

 

JOSH MILLER – Craftsman 

Josh assists in all of Evergreen’s on-site builds including the new exhibits in the Coal Camp. He’s also a talented musician who regularly performs at Evergreen’s events.

 


AmeriCorps Members

JOHN GUTHRIE – John has served as an AmeriCorps member at Evergreen for over two years. He is a jack-of-all-trades assisting with property maintenance, caretaking, programming, and agriculture. John holds a bachelor’s of science in Recreation and Parks Management from Frostburg State University.

 

BECKA NIGH – Becka began working with Evergreen in Spring of 2023 as an instructor for Earth & Space Science programs. Beginning in Fall 2023, she will serve as an AmeriCorps member assisting with education programming. Becka has a love for plants and has a background in horticulture. She holds an associate’s degree in Forestry from Allegany College of Maryland.

 

MAX HANCOCK – Max will begin serving at Evergreen in Fall of 2023.
