Nursery Operations Manager

The 130-acre Evergreen Heritage Center (EHC) near Mt. Savage, MD is recruiting a Nursery Operations Manager.  EHC agriculture resources include multiple gardens, orchards, and greenhouses, as well as demonstrations of best practices in sustainable agriculture across the property such as pollinator plantings, rain gardens, and a forest garden demonstrating what can be grown under the forest canopy.  These ag resources are used in support of the EHC’s award-winning hands-on education and heritage tourism programs, as well as to provide marketable plants and other agriculture products that subsidize EHC programs.  Specific duties include planning, preparing, and executing plant sales; planning and helping to maintain garden spaces; coordinating staff and volunteers for landscaping, invasive species removal, and native plant installations; working with EHC instructors to identify and meet their program needs; and conducting gardening demonstrations for students and visitors. Candidate should be energetic and well-organized and have a background in agriculture/gardening.  Knowledge of native plants is also preferred.  Other necessary skills include proficiency in both verbal and written communication, planning, organization, and use of Microsoft Office.  An undergraduate degree is desired but not mandatory. This contractual position will initially be part time (approximately 20 hours/week) but is expected to grow with EHC program expansion.
