Workforce Development
Real World Forestry
In the spring of 2025, Evergreen in partnership with Maryland DNR, will be offering a weekly Forestry program for enrolled college students. This program will give students the opportunity to gain real world and hands-on skills in the field of forestry, while building their resume.
Students will work on real world projects with seasoned professionals from the field. And at the completion of the program, students will receive a recognized certificate by the DNR when applying for DNR jobs.
Students will meet each Friday at Evergreen (Jan. 24-April 18, 2025) and the program will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Forestry 101
Forestry 101 is a workforce development program, in conjunction with Reynwood Forest Management, designed for students from 9th grade through early college. The goal of the program is to give participants an introduction to the career of forestry. The two-week long, hands-on, program allows participants to gain a basic understanding of key forestry topics, while working just as they would be in the actual field.
Participants go through an application and interview process, just as they would when applying for a job. During lunch, participants get a break from the hands-on projects and are given an opportunity to sit back and listen. Topics for the program include, but are not limited to, safety and risk management, Â tree identification, invasive species control, and forest health.
This program is sponsored by Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
AmeriCorps NCCC
Each year, Evergreen partners with AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps). NCCC members are assigned to teams, which travel across the country to various sites where they engage in service projects and community outreach. AmeriCorps NCCC is for members aged 18-26. Members are given many opportunities to gain relevant experience that can be applied to future careers.
At Evergreen, NCCC teams learn sawmill operations, develop and maintain trails, conduct program preparations, assist with community events, and more.
