Public Forest Therapy Walk
June 21 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am
Forest Therapy Walk Public Session
Registration costs $30 per participant.
What is Forest Therapy? Forest therapy is the practice of being one with and connecting to nature. It is based on the Japanese practice of “shinrin yoku” or forest bathing, which was developed during the Japanese tech boom as a way to improve mental health and wellbeing.
Benefits: Forest bathing has a number of health benefits including boosted immunity (increase in natural killer (NK) cells and anticancer proteins), reduced stress, reduced inflammation, improved mood, improved mental health (reduced anxiety and depression, improved self-esteem), lowered blood pressure and heart rate, improved sleep, deactivated sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight), activated parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest), regulated blood sugar, improved concentration and short-term memory, increased creativity, fostered understanding of interdependence, increased feeling of social connection and empathy, and improved spiritual well-being. On top of the many health benefits, many find that forest bathing offers a sense of connection and community among participants.
What to expect: We’ll be connecting with nature on the beautiful property at Evergreen, so dress appropriately for the weather and bring some water. We’ll do some mindful movements and breathing exercises, take a short hike, regroup and share, and close with a tea ceremony. The session will last ~2 hours total.
What to bring: Feel free to bring a lightweight camp chair, yoga mat, or sit pad to make yourself more comfortable and even a journal.
