Description
Pignut hickory is a large tree that has a tall, but relatively narrow crown. The bark is tight rather than shaggy and the fall color is golden. The leaves are alternate, pinnately compound leaves with 5-7 leaflets (sometimes 7). They are often found on dry ridgetops and sideslopes, but also in moist soils.
Soil: Prefers well-drained, acidic to neutral pH soils
Sun: Full sun, can do well in slightly shaded areas.
