Description

Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) gets its name from its intricate blooms that look like tiny birds in flight.   The spikes of tall red flowers attract hummingbirds and add a pop of color to the late summer landscape.  Cardinal Flower serves as a crucial food source for pollinators in wetland habitats, but also adapts well to a shady, moist garden.
