Janice Keene – President & Founder

A computer programmer turned savvy business consultant turned nonprofit leader, Janice grew up on the farm at Evergreen. The visionary behind the evolution of Evergreen Heritage Center, she was named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record. Since its founding in 2008, under her leadership, EHC has grown from serving 26 participants to over 18,000 annually.

Dawn Hein – Executive Director, Curator

As Executive Director, Dawn manages our programs in tourism, hospitality, and outreach. Dawn has over twenty years of experience in architectural design, historic preservation, and museum studies.  As a former Executive Director of the Garrett County Heritage Area, she has made strides in preserving the history of Western Maryland. She has a B.A. degree in Interior Design from Purdue University and an M.S. degree in Historic Preservation from Ball State University.

Matt Diehl – Facilities Manager

A talented craftsman, with a background in logging and construction, Matt is responsible for the success of our conservation programs, building maintenance, and caring for the beautiful grounds. As a skilled carpenter, Matt has designed and built countless exhibits, pavilions, and structures across the property.

William Ault – Grounds Crew and Property Maintenance

With an Associates degree in Forest Technology, William has a background in landscaping, invasive species control, and facility management. He is responsible for the maintenance of the grounds at Evergreen, our trail system, and its buildings.  Working along side the Facility Manager, William ensures the property is ready for field trips and visitors .

Maggie Pratt – Director of Arts

Maggie is a successful working artist. She occasionally leads art programs for adults at Evergreen and she has designed and implemented the Nature of Art programs. She holds a M.Ed in Art Education/Studio from Frostburg State University.

Lacey Day – Education Manager

As Education Manager, Lacey oversees Evergreen’s education programs, events, and outreach. She served as an AmeriCorps member at Evergreen for two years before transitioning to staff. She has a naturalist background and enjoys teaching students of all ages about the world around us. Lacey has a B.S. in Wildlife & Fisheries from Frostburg State University and a MAEd: Natural Science and Environmental Education from Hamline University.

Jim

Jim Book – Instructor & Event Coordinator

Jim has over 20 years of youth ministry experience where he often would combine his teaching with his love of science through various experiments and demonstrations. He believes in hands-on, experiential learning. Jim holds a B.S. in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and a M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary.

Megan

Megan Treby – Instructor

Megan brings over 30 years of teaching experience to the team where she's held a variety of roles including Aftercare Supervisor, Tinkergarten Instructor, and Lead Teacher. Megan thrives in outdoor settings and has a passion for teaching the "littles" and students of all ages.

Rebecca Heckler – Agriculture / Forestry Specialist

A former AmeriCorps member serving here at Evergreen, Rebecca has immersed herself in the planning and identification of resources on the 131 acre property. With an associates degree in Forest Technology, she is responsible for ensuring our compliance and fulfillment of the Conservation Stewardship Plan, USDA, Family Forest Carbon Credit Program, and our own MD Department of Natural Resources Forest Stewardship Plan.

Shanna Sincell – Nursery & Garden Operations

As a Maryland Master Naturalist, Shanna has worked at several Maryland State Parks on trail maintenance, garden design, and interpretive programming.  She brings her knowledge and passion for native plants to Evergreen directing our planning and growth for nursery facilities and programming. Shanna works along with our education team to incorporate our resources into field trips, to provide students with relevant examples on-site.
